The Robin Bond Interiors Team has been hard at work, tasting gluten-free beer. We vow to drink for a purpose and this time around our purpose was to find the tastiest gluten-free beer our local HEB has to offer. Two members of our five person team are gluten-free gals. We all love to drink wine, but for our Summer Kickoff BBQ everyone wanted to kick back with a beer.
Overall, we were impressed by the ability of these beer makers to create comparable flavors. We were pleased they actually tasted “like beer.”
Gluten Free Beer Tasting:
Omission IPA: This one won the vote for best overall out of the four we tasted. As you could expect from an IPA, it is a bit hoppy, but really not too bitter with a malty finish.
A few of us also really liked Dogfish Head’s Tweason’ale. We recommend this beer for people who like sweeter and not so traditional beer flavors. Strawberry is definitely the leading taste, but it’s surprisingly not too sweet. A perfect gluten-free summer beer!
From Dogfish: “This beer was pretty labor-intensive to make, but it was a beautiful process. We invited our artist friends Jamie and Kevin to come document our brew with their ultra-cool Cinemagraph process.” See the full Cinemagraph here.
We also tried Greens Tripel Blonde Ale and Anheuser-Busch’s Gluten Free Red Bridge. Both of these were decent, however, none of us normally drink blondes or traditional lagers much and perhaps that’s why we leaned towards the others. If you like blondes or lagers and have avoided beer because you’ve gone gluten-free, give them a try!
Our Summer BBQ:
Robin tapped into her “Texas side” and set the table with butcher paper, a classic red and white gingham runner and beautiful wildflower arrangements in mason jars. Robin’s husband, Darren, smoked a brisket in his Big Green Egg for nine hours and it turned out perfect! We’re going to share his brisket recipe in our upcoming newsletter. The brisket was the staple of our Texas-sized feast which also included homemade potato salad, deviled eggs, stuffed jalapenos and slow-cooked BBQ beans.
We had a great time and ended the night by playing a men vs. women round Heads Up! Heads Up! is an app. created by Ellen DeGeneres that is like a modern version of charades.
