I have tried some new red wines lately and have to admit that I have not cared for any of them. I tend to like a dry wine that is less sweet with richer nuances such as leather and wood, but it seems like everything I have tried lately tastes like grape juice.
I was pleasantly surprised to find Llano Estacado Cellar Reserve 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. Llano winery is a local Texas winery which consistently produces some exceptional wines. This one scored with me. If you are like me and prefer a more rustic dry wine then I highly recommend it. The wine is complex with aromas of current and cherry. It also has hints of cedar (which I love) supported by full tannins.
This wine will be excellent with any type of beef or lamb. I could even see this complimenting Texas BBQ which is not an easy feat for wine.
Life is better with good food, good wine, and great design!
