Last summer I was contacted out of the blue through Facebook by one of my childhood friends, De’Aun, to help her decorate a nursery in anticipation of her first grandchild. What started as just a nursery redesign quickly expanded to add a complete overhaul in three of their main rooms. I love how every single one of these spaces turned out, but wanted to specifically point out one in particular to show how proper space planning in conjunction with really honing in on a client’s needs and wants for each space can turn a previously unusable room into one of the most loved areas in the home.
This dining room, located directly off of the kitchen, was never really used before. The chairs were too heavy to allow this room to function as a dining area on a regular basis, and as a result these empty-nesters and busy business owners often found themselves eating their meals at a small uncomfortable bar area while trying to watch TV.
When discussing how DeAun would really like to use the space we talked about how she would also enjoy a sitting area where she could relax with coffee in the morning and watch the news. I felt like, based on the size of the space, we could easily provide her both with a nice dining table for her growing family as well as a cozy, relaxing sitting area for her. I say (and De’Aun says) mission accomplished.
I did not really get the best angle on the dining space in the before picture but hopefully you can still see what a major transformation we created both aesthetically and in regards to use of the space. The classic blue and white color scheme with varying textures works really well in this Texas Ranch style home. De’Aun was gracious enough to sit down with me recently for a video testimony about her experience with our firm and what she thinks of her new spaces. Check out the video below!
