Fall Creek Vineyards Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon Certenberg Vineyard 2014

When Renee and I visited Fall Creek Vineyards recently our top pick from the tasting was a white (believe it or not!). Our second favorite and close runner up was this Merlot/Cab blend from their Terroir Reflection collection. We tasted mostly mocha and cinnamon, though the wine review indicates roasted red currant and black plum.

Tasting notes from the vineyard’s website:

Fall Creek Vineyards Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon Certenberg Vineyard 2014“This is a wine with finesse and a soft, elegant finish. An opulent middle palate that suggests roasted red currant and black plum, freshly-turned black soil, forest floor and a hint of prune and pencil shavings. An approachable and enjoyable wine that will satisfy the serious wine lover as well as the novice.

Pair this beauty with subtle beef preparations, duck, mushrooms and creamy cheeses.”

With the holiday season coming up, we are sure that there will be lots of parties and get-togethers to attend, and this wine would not only make a great gift but would also pair nicely with the many appetizers you are likely to encounter. If you would like to purchase a bottle of your own, you may do so directly from their website here, or even better, you can visit the vineyard in person and do a tasting of your own! It’s just a short drive outside of Austin in Driftwood and is right across from the original Salt Lick BBQ to make for a lovely evening out.

Life is better with good food, good wine and great design,
