Festive Bacon-Cheese Dip

Everything is better with bacon, and this festive dip is no exception! Serve it at any between Christmas and the new year (or any time of year, really; how can you go wrong with bacon?).

Spicy Shrimp and Crab Bruschetta

Everyone can always use a new appetizer to roll out around the holidays. This is a good one for a small dinner party, or you can double or even triple the recipe for larger crowds. If you are gluten free, just substitute a gluten free french bread such as Udi’s, or you can even use a more standard loaf of gluten free bread and use a cookie cutter to make rounds, or other festive shapes. If you are highly allergic, then I will say that recipes like this one which use a lot of mayonnaise may have traces of gluten in them, and so just make sure to also use a mayonnaise specifically marked gluten free (or even a substitute like Vegenaise would work well here).

Dine With Design: Christmas

The trends for Christmas this year seem to be very subdued, with a lot of neutral tones. It’s a fresh, clean look that pairs well with the current design trends. I anticipate that in years to come we will start seeing more color again, but you can never go wrong with white and so our Christmas dinner tablescape this year is from a collection we sell called First Snow. It is elegant and beautiful. We don’t get snow in Texas, but we get to pretend a little with this table setting. Continue reading

Dine With Design: Thanksgiving

I have to say that I do believe Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. The foods of the season bring back so many good memories of my maternal grandparents. For as long as I can remember, we would all pile in our station wagon and head to my grandparents’ house in the then small-speck-on-the-map town of Dripping Springs. There wasn’t even a grocery store in the town at that time. Other than a few churches and local mom & pop stores, Dripping Springs was literally in the middle of nowhere. My grandmother used to drive all the way in to Oak Hill to purchase groceries. Continue reading

Slow Cooker Pork Roast with Sausage and Sauerkraut

I am bartering with my dad right now to run my son all over creation in exchange for this pork roast dinner. It’s a hearty meal for cold winter nights and works really great as a New Year’s Day meal paired with black eyed peas. Other than browning the roast, this is a throw-it-in-the-crock-pot kind of meal, which is how we like to roll when we can. The only thing tricky about crock pot meals is remembering that I need to take something out of the freezer the day ahead if it’s something I have already thrown in the freezer.

Dine With Design: Mexican

Tex-Mex cuisine is a staple here in Texas, and is also a favorite among a lot of people. You can’t go wrong inviting a group of friends over for a taco bar, enchiladas, or or my famous Bond Family Chili with Beans. I love one-pot meals like this because they are easy to make, and the leftovers just keep getting better. In our family we usually always have Mexican food prior to Christmas. Hopefully, this table idea will come in handy if your family decides to try this idea. Continue reading

Dine With Design: Italian

There are a couple of elements that I think are absolutely necessary on any table. One is candle lighting, and the other is some sort of natural element (sticks, plants, flowers or even vegetables). I think the natural element and the fire component combined bring both life and movement to the setting, and the candle lighting also adds an extra level of ambiance. Besides, let’s face it, we all look better in candle lighting. Continue reading
